Cork Floor Fundamentals continued
Cork contains insulating elements which results in a
reduction of your heating and cooling bills. It is actually warm to the
touch, even if it does not contain underfloor heating and it insulates
against both heat and cold. This makes it conducive for cold, hard
cement subflooring.
For years cork has had the reputation for being a high quality
underlayment under hard surface floors because it is highly efficient
for sound control and also suppresses cracks. It also absorbs vibration,
as well as sound so it is beneficial for both homes and businesses
because it can reduce the transference of sound between floors.
Cork is capable of being applied over any type of subflooring, even
existing flooring. However, it cannot be applied over carpet.
Cork may even be applied over flooring that is asbestos-based because it
eliminates the necessity of removal of the old floor and, therefore, the
health risks that can occur during removal.
You should also consider cork flooring because of its low maintenance
and it is relatively easy to install. You will be very pleased with its
versatility and beauty.
