How to Care for your Floors 3

The floor may also change color when certain chemicals in wood and natural stone become oxidized in strong light.

In that case, you should put felt protective pads on the legs of your furniture so that the furniture can be moved without scratching or denting your floor. They can also act as a barrier to sound. Replace the felt pads on occasion as dirt and grit may become embedded in them.

Keep your high heels in good repair because if they become worn or the protective cap is not on, the steel support rod will be exposed and create dents and pits in the wood, tile, stone or vinyl of your floor. A person wearing high heels who weighs merely 125 pounds applies about one ton of pressure per square inch!

You need to know how your floors were finished so that you can care for them properly by using the correct products as well as the correct methods for cleaning your floors. There are different types of finishes for hard surface floors and it's possible that the same floor throughout your home may have different finishes in different rooms. You need to know whether your floor has an acrylic, urethane or wax finish because the care of each type of finish may be different. Thus it is extremely important to know how your floors were finished.

If you adhere to these guidelines, you will have beautiful floors that will last for years and you will truly have a good investment for your home!
