How to Care for your Floors continued

Do not sand laminate floors because laminate floors are merely photographs of wood floors that are applied to high pressure laminate backing.

Do not use cleaners that are abrasive nor any polishes, waxes or lacquers on laminate floors.

Do not put plants on your floor even if they are in waterproof saucers because condensation may occur which may damage your floor. You may put plants on plant stands or on trivets because those items will allow the air to circulate underneath the plant.

The claws of dogs and cats may scratch or dent the surface of your floor, so keep your pet's nails trimmed on a regular basis. Also, clean up pet urine immediately as it will damage the finish of the floor if it dries.

Also, wipe up food and other spills promptly using a soft cloth and a cleaner that is appropriate for your floor. For dry spills, use a vacuum or broom.

Do not use any type of acidic cleaners or household products, such as vinegar on polished surfaces like marble, because it will damage the surface.

Put mats at the entrance to all doors so that dirt and sand will not be tracked into the home or other buildings. When sand is tracked in on people's shoes, it actually acts like sandpaper. Also use area rugs on pathways and other areas with a great deal of foot traffic. However, do not use rugs that have rubber backings or non-ventilated rugs as rugs should allow floors to breathe. Area rugs should be moved around from time to time to prevent an uneven appearance that may result when the sun shines through the windows.
